Feeling lost and down? Do This

Today’s newsletter is about finding your glue and making sure you stick to it. When you’re feeling lost and down – this is the fastest way to break your state of being.

The glue I’m talking about here are the thoughts, emotions, choices, and behaviors that will keep your life running smoothly. The glue that allows you to move confidently in the direction of your dreams.

We all have behaviors and thought patterns that are destructive and harmful. We also have behaviors and thought processes that unlock our limitless potential. This is the dual nature of the human psyche. 

Learning to discipline myself to make time for my daily routine is how I changed myself from feeling lost and down – to feeling motivated and inspired about life. The daily glue for me is to get up before the sun every morning and step into meditation.

Some mornings this is easier than others. Some mornings my body is screaming at me to stay in bed. Maybe I’ve been up late working on the laptop and I wake up feeling tired – but I’ve learnt through experience that regardless of how I feel – I’ve just gotta get up and make time for my meditation. The cost of not doing it is too great!

The second part of my morning schedule is I’ve gotta get to the gym and get my body moving. Once I get those feel good neurotransmitters moving around I know I’m setting myself up for a successful day. Then I’m good to go! Then all the other things that make up my life are easy! 

So you’ve got to find your glue and you’ve got to stick to it. Repetition creates skill. Like any other behavior, once you’ve been doing it for a couple of weeks, it just becomes second nature to you. Commitment and consistency is the key to your success. 

The hurdle you have to overcome is just getting started. Just like the first 2-3 weeks starting back at the gym can be tough, but then you’re in the routine and it gets easier and easier to find the motivation. 

So it’s time for you to find your glue. What do you need to fill your tank? Is it doing yoga? Is it being creative? Is it quality time with the kids? Is it going for a run every morning? Whatever it is, just find your glue and stick to it.

The commitment to your glue is an investment in yourself. You are responsible for creating your own happiness. If you place it outside of you then eventually you will end up down and depressed. If it is to be, it’s up to me.

You cannot build a house without infrastructure. You need that base foundation that everything else springs from. Your glue is your structure, that’s your bedrock, everything you want in life then gets built on top of it.

What I’ve noticed in my life is if I miss my morning meditation everything else goes out the window. If I miss a couple of days going to the gym everything goes out the window. It just spirals back down into the negative state. 

What I want you to do today is to think about what fills your tank. What’s your bedrock? What activities do you need to make time for so you can create a better life? Then you need to make time for it. 

You can either make time, or you can make excuses. It’s one or the other. Either commit to make time so you can move towards what you want in life, or else you keep coming up with the same roadblocks and the same old problems over and over again.

I want you to get out a bit of paper for me and have a think, what do you need to do each day to keep yourself motivated? How can you structure your day to make sure that you can take care of yourself? Your family? So that you can run your business? Get to your job on time? So that you can go after that dream that you’ve got knorring inside.

Whatever you put in is what you will get back. Get your bedrock locked down and then everything else will start to fall into place for you. This is exactly how I beat addiction, depression and a lack or direction in my life – it will work for you as well!
